I think as you start to become more aware of the techniques in NLP, you will also begin to notice how the techniques are used all the time in many different ways, mostly unconsciously. NLP was not the creation of a series of techniques but actually observational iteration of the techniques people use often unconsciously made conscious, then refined and tested deliberately. NLP is more an attitude of curiosity that allows you to notice and practice techniques.
